Simms (out, splenectomy) believes he can return to action this season for the Buccaneers, and has targeted Thanksgiving to be game-ready, the St. Petersburg Times reports.
ROTOWIRE FANTASY ANALYSIS
"It's going to be a few more weeks before I can start doing real light workouts," Simms said. "Then ... (I'll) a little time to get back into shape. And then the final thing is going to be can I take a hit again? Right now, I have a big scar going down the middle of my chest." Simms underwent surgery on September 24 to remove his ruptured spleen after injuries suffered in that day's game against Carolina. Even if Simms can meet that aggressive schedule, there's no guarantee he'll get playing time for the Bucs if rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski continues to impress. Simms also revealed he turned down a $10 million bonus from Tampa Bay in the off-season, choosing instead to sign a one-year deal in hopes of a bigger payout in 2007. Simms' injury, however, has put a big crimp into those plans.
