Recommendation |
Derek Dietrich (3B) MIA |
5/24/2013 |
| Dietrich was 1-for-5 with a two-run home run against the White Sox on Friday night. |
It was his second home run of the year since being recalled from Double-A Jacksonville earlier this month. He's hitting a rather modest .250, but the offensively-challenged Marlins are desperate to find someone who can provide a spark. |
|
Tom Koehler (P) MIA |
5/24/2013 |
| Koehler chipped in another quality start, allowing three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three over six innings, but was left with a no-decision in Miami's 4-3 loss to the White Sox in 11 innings Friday night. |
He continues to pitch reasonably well with a 3.18 ERA over 22.1 innings, including two starts, but he's 0-2 and lacks the pedigree to pitch well enough to overcome a dismal Marlins offense over the long term so his fantasy value is very limited. |
|
Kevin Slowey (P) MIA |
5/24/2013 |
| Slowey (lat) played long toss and threw from flat ground Friday, the Associated Press reports. |
He's on track to start as scheduled Tuesday against the Rays, but Slowey will throw a bullpen session Saturday which should ultimately go further in providing insight to his availability after he left his last start Wednesday against the Phillies with a strained left lat. |
|
Nathan Eovaldi (P) MIA |
5/24/2013 |
| Eovaldi (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment Saturday with High-A Jupiter, Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports. |
In his rehab debut for the Jupiter Hammerheads, Eovaldi is expected to throw between 60-70 pitches. The 23-year-old right-hander hit the DL at the tail end of spring training, and he was later moved to the 60-day DL. He will need to increase his pitch count gradually over the course of what will likely be a lengthy rehab assignment, but a return by late June still seems like a possibility. |
|
Casey Kotchman (1B) MIA |
5/23/2013 |
| Kotchman (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter on Thursday. |
Kotchman has been sidelined since straining his hamstring Apr. 3, but he is finally ready for game action again. Kotchman is not eligible to come off the disabled list until June 3, but he figures to be ready to rejoin the big club by that date. |
|
Nick Green (3B) MIA |
5/23/2013 |
| Green was hitlesss in three at-bats Wednesday while stranding four baserunners during the Marlins' 3-0 loss to Philadelphia. |
Green is batting a poor .204 on the season and just .111 in his last 10 games. After being designated for assignment by the Marlins just a couple of weeks ago before a couple of untimely injuries opened up a roster spot for the utility infielder, Green has been underwhelming during his second chance. With several Fish currently on the mend, Green's days on the roster may be numbered. |
|
Joe Mahoney (1B) MIA |
5/23/2013 |
| Mahoney's (hamstring) rehab stint will be moved to Triple-A New Orleans this weekend, according to the Miami Herald. |
Currently working at Single-A Jupiter, Mahoney is making positive progress towards a return. He'll be sent to Triple-A while fellow first baseman Logan Morrison (knee) works his way back at Double-A Jacksonville. Mahoney flashed some solid ability at the dish in his brief stint in the big leagues earlier this year, but injuries robbed him of a chance to earn any real playing time. With Morrison's return expected in June as well, Mahoney is set for a bench role once again. |
|
Logan Morrison (OF) MIA |
5/23/2013 |
| Morrison (knee) is likely to move his rehab assignment to Double-A Jacksonville on Monday, the Miami Herald reports. |
LoMo has been working at High-A Jupiter over the first week of rehab games, knocking three hits with a walk in his first 14 plate appearances. Morrison continues to work his way back from offseason knee surgery and is eyeing a 2013 debut sometime in early June. |
