RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2013

There was no outlook written for Anthony Slama.

2011

Slama continues to put up strong numbers in the minors but just hasn't received much faith from the Twins as he was frequently passed over for other pitchers when spots opened up in the majors. When he finally got called up in July, he struggled by giving up four runs in 4.2 innings with a 5:5 K:BB ratio. While he had great control in the low minors, he had just a 74:32 K:BB ratio and struggled against lefties, so he'll need to improve in those areas. Still, Slama could be an impact reliever for the Twins, even though he is 27 this season, given his success in the minors and outstanding strikeout rates (10.2 K/9IP last season at Triple-A).

2010

Even though he is 26 next season, Slama could be an impact reliever for the Twins given his success in the minors. Slama has outstanding control (112:40 K:BB ratio overall in 2009) along with an impressive strikeout rate (12.4 K/9 IP combined last season). Even though he's a little old to be considered a top prospect, he's produced at a high level at each stop in the minors. He'll compete for a bullpen job this spring, but may start at Triple-A. Don't surprised to see him with key a setup role later in 2010.
