Chara will visit a hand specialist later this week to decide whether or not he will undergo surgery on his injured left pinkie, the Boston Globe reports.
ROTOWIRE FANTASY ANALYSIS
Chara hopes to avoid surgery, but either way his finger will have plenty of time to heal after the Bruins' playoff elimination this past Friday. The B's towering blueliner finished the season with 44 points, six off his 2008-09 pace, including seven goals (down from 19). While he played at a high level overall, he's not going to take home the Norris Trophy this offseason as he did after last year's stellar campaign. He'll return next season to anchor the Bruins' blue line, but with both Dennis Seidenberg and Johnny Boychuck headed for free agency, it remains to be seen who his defensive partner will be.
