The Lions have acquired Scheffler from the Broncos in a three-team deal that also involved the Eagles, Mlive.com reports.

The report has the Lions shipping Ernie Sims to the Eagles, with an undisclosed draft pick going to the Broncos. The move gives Detroit some depth and insurance at tight end, as Brandon Pettigrew recovers from a knee injury. Scheffler has shown some upside as a pass-catcher, but his production slipped last season under a Broncos regime that ignores the tight end in the passing game. A fresh start will probably do him some good, as he wasn't exactly a favorite of Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.
