Alonso was named the 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year on Tuesday in voting conducted by the Professional Football Writers of America, BuffaloBills.com reports.
ROTOWIRE FANTASY ANALYSIS
We imagine Sheldon Richardson of the Jets was his closest competition, but in the end Alonso was on the field more and made quite an impression with his all-around ability. The second-rounder finished the campaign with an eye-popping 159 tackles to go with four interceptions and two sacks, and while his play slipped just a tad in the season's second half and on occasion he can tend to over-pursue a run play or two, he's everything the Bills could have hoped for to man their middle for years. Alonso doesn't seem to be that far off from where Carolina's Luke Kuechly was a year ago.
